Last Year’s Event Recap
Well, we did it again! AFC put on another successful fundraising event netting close to $10,000 with the help of the recreational fishing community. Local and not-so-local captains and fishing aficionados, spent the evening auctioning themselves off to the highest bidders with the purpose to raise awareness of our great Indian River Lagoon and surrounding waters. The passion these people feel for marine conservation shined through every one of them as they came forth and spoke of what it means to them, their businesses, their families and their families legacies. They spoke of the importance of organizations like AFC who work to educate the next generation of marine stewards.
With their help and help from you and many others, AFC is able to continue its mission. Thank you Dave Ferrell, Capt. Mike Holliday, Capt. John Kumiski, Capt. Jim Ross, Capt. Tom Van Horn and Capt. Blair Wiggins. You guys are such good sports and important role models for sustainable sport fishing.
The Linda Goode Conservation Award for Outstanding Marine Stewardship was given to three very inspiring individuals who work towards a more sustainable future for our invaluable marine resources; Alex Gorichky of Local Lines Guide Service, Leesa Souto of Marine Resources Council and Rufus Wakeman of River Palm Cottages and Fish Camp. Thank you for your determined efforts in conservation!
Another big thank you goes out to the many sponsors and supporters of the event. Without you, we couldn’t have thrown such a fun party.
